Inspired by the ephemeral and organic light of fireflies, and a desire to update the celebratory ritual of fireworks, <a href="/festival-program/spark">SPARK</a> is an artwork created by Daan Roosegaarde of Dutch social design lab, Studio Roosegaarde.
SPARK by Daan Roosegaarde has been exhibited in Bilbao, Aix-en-Provence, Madrid, Auckland and London – and is coming to Fed Square as part of RISING this year.
SPARK will gently illuminate the night sky, as visitors are encouraged to pass through the space in quiet contemplation of the wondrous organic and luminescent forms that hover above, moving with the wind.
In this special In Conversation event, artist Daan Roosegaarde will be joined by Melbourne Arts Precinct CEO Katrina Sedgwick OAM and RISING co—CEO and Artistic Director Hannah Fox.

THE EDGE  

The Edge has lift access and is wheelchair accessible. Arrangements can also be made to enter from the Fed Square Car Park. Accessible toilets can be found in The Atrium, which is located next to The Edge. The lower stage in The Edge has lift access but the greenroom does not.

THE ATRIUM  

The Atrium is wheelchair accessible, with Flinders Street offering the best point of entry. The Atrium has accessible toilets located next to IceBar and is equipped with a hearing loop.  

ACCESSIBLE TOILETS  

There are accessible public toilets and baby-change facilities located in the Main Square, next to Time Out Cafe and in The Atrium, next to IceBar.  

ACCESSIBLE PARKING  

Fed Square has its own multi-level car park, which is accessible from Russell Street or Batman Ave (Exhibition Street extension – City Link). The Federation Square Car Park is open 24hrs and has accessible spaces located next to the lift on each level.

Wilson Parking is available Flinders Gate Car Park, 172-192 Flinders Street (20m from venue) or at Fed Square Rooftop, Russell Street (240m from venue). PUBLIC TRANSPORT  

Fed Square is part of Melbourne’s  Free Tram Zone, which includes the area from the iconic Queen Victoria Market to Victoria Harbour in Docklands, up to Spring Street and over Flinders Street Station and Fed Square.  

Travel on trams within this zone is free, and you won’t need a myki, however, if your journey starts or finishes outside the boundaries of the Free Tram Zone, you must touch on your myki at the reader in the normal way to make sure you have a valid ticket.  

The Free Tram Zone signs at tram stops identify the boundaries of the zone.  

TAXIS AND PICKING UP/DROPPING OFF PASSENGERS  

If you are accessing the Main Square the safest place to pick up and drop off passengers is the Taxi Rank across the road on Swanston Street. If you are accessing Deakin Edge, we recommend the Russell Street Extension.
