<p>After reviving Melbourne’s beloved winter tradition last year, RISING creates a new ice-skating experience of celestial proportions. Riverside ice skating on a new super sized rink—for seasoned and new ice skaters, of all ages. Skating aides available to help with confidence on the ice. The Rink is sheltered by an open-wall, galactic big top. </p>
<p>Follow the scent of buttery popcorn, hot chocolate and mulled wine towards the glow of the open-walled big top down at Birrarung Marr. Lace up and glide like a galactic gazelle under lights that smoulder like star dust. </p>
<p>The Rink is located in a riverside precinct which features everything you need to keep cozy. Warm up with friends and family around the firepits, tuck into  delicious food and sip on drinks for all tastes (alcoholic and non-alcholic options available).</p>

<h1 id="eat-and-drink-rink-side">Eat and drink rink-side</h1>
<p>After your skate, rest riverside by the open fire with a coffee by St Ali or a <strong>Mörk Chocolate</strong> and <strong>Archie Rose</strong> boozy hot chocolate. The drink selection is plentiful with <strong>Bodriggy</strong> beers, wine curated by <strong>Glou</strong>, low-sugar and probiotic soft drinks by <strong>Bobby</strong>, Bubble Tea by <strong>Cha Time</strong>, and an Indigenous-designed cuppa of tea by <strong>Mabu Mabu</strong>. Munch on hot-buttered popcorn, or snacks from <strong>Hot Dog Deli</strong>, <strong>Fugazi Pizza</strong>, <strong>Manny’s Doughnuts</strong>, as well as sweet and savoury crepes by not-for-profit C<strong>repes for Change</strong>. <strong>Chappys</strong> and Free to Feed are offering the chips and dips. <strong>Pie Thief</strong> will be warming the night air with seriously chunky savoury pies. And, of course, there’s ice cream. Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options available.  </p>

<h3 id="skating-lessons">SKATING LESSONS</h3>
<p>Skating lessons are available in the 12PM and 1PM sessions during the RISING season (1-18 June). Lessons are for the first 15 minutes of each session, and will increase your ticket price by $10/pp. Please check carefully and select the appropriate ticket type.  </p>
<h3 id="children">CHILDREN</h3>
<p>Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult on the ice.  </p>
<h3 id="family-tickets">FAMILY TICKETS</h3>
<p>Select 1 or 2 standard adult tickets and 2 child tickets unlock a family package discount at checkout. Exclusive online or via phone discount only.  </p>

WALKING

Birrarung Marr is an approximately 7 minute walk (600m) from Flinders Street Station, via Princes Walk and Flinder Walk, and a 10 minute walk (850m) from the MCG. At the east end of the park, the William Barak pedestrian bridge leads directly to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the Tanderrum Bridge leads directly to the Melbourne Park tennis centre.   

CYCLING

There is a public bike parking rack near the Birrarung Marr playground and ArtPlay. Please ensure you lock your bike. Cyclists park their bikes at their own risk. 

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Birrarung Marr is a short walk from Flinders Street Railway Station, as well as several tram routes along St Kilda Road and Flinders Street. See [PTV Journey Planner](https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/journey) for information on routes.

Located on the northern bank of the Yarra River between Federation Square and Melbourne Park, Birrarung Marr features a range of native flora and sculpted terraces. It is also the location for the children's arts centre, ArtPlay, and provides space for many events held throughout the year.
In Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung culture, 'Birrarung' is the traditional name of the Yarra River; and 'marr' refers to the mist that sometimes settles over the Birrarung. The park name reflects the ‘river of mists'.

This area was historically used for railway lines and yards from 1856. In 1992, the Victorian Government undertook a process of reorganisation of land uses around the then proposed Federation Square. This led to the reclamation of the former railyard to allow access to the river and land for public open space purposes. 

Construction of the park began in 2000 and was a joint venture between the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government. Birrarung Marr was opened in 2002. 

The park hosts a variety of native flora, sculpted terraces, pedestrian and bicycle paths and is used for numerous festivals and events throughout the year. 

The former rail use continues to be represented by the adaptation of the former Princes Bridge Lecture Room (a purpose-built railway training building constructed in 1916-17) into ArtPlay, a children’s art centre and gallery.
